Pressure and lobby groups
Pressure and lobby groups are organisations that try to influence government policy.
They play a very important role in politics. There are many pressure groups in the UK.
They may represent economic interests (such as the Confederation of British Industry, the
Consumers’ Association, or the trade unions) or views on particular subjects (e.g.
Greenpeace or Liberty). The general public is more likely to support pressure groups than
join a political party.
